Bethel Park School District will not hold classes on Tuesday, Nov. 3, as staff participate in a professional development day, with classes resuming Wednesday, Nov. 4, and the next student day off on Monday, Nov. 9, for Teacher Records Day.

Bethel Park High School senior Nathan Purcell was named the Bethel Park Rotary Club’s Student of the Month for October, recognized for his 4.53 GPA, leadership roles in National Honor Society and Best Buddies, and community service including youth football camps and an annual Lions Park cleanup. A starting left guard on the football team and a track athlete, Purcell balances athletics with serving as NHS treasurer, where he helps organize a community blood drive and plans an additional fundraiser with UPMC. After graduation, he plans to attend St. Vincent College to continue his football career while pursuing a degree in aviation.

Bethel Park’s girls tennis team capped a dominant 2026 regular season with a perfect 8-0 section record and a Section 4-3A title, finishing 12-1 overall, before reaching the WPIAL team final for the fourth consecutive year. Senior Cami Fisher reached the WPIAL Class 3A singles final for the first time, falling in three sets to four-time champion Meriwether McCargo of Shady Side Academy after a hard-fought battle, while the doubles duo of Mackenzie Smock and Cassie Sierka won the WPIAL 3A doubles title. Coach Gary Reese praised the team’s work ethic, leadership, and commitment on and off the court.

Community members of all ages are welcome; COVID-19 boosters are also available for those who qualify

Jon Gentile, a Bethel Park teacher, died in 2022 when he and his father kayaked over an unmarked run-of-the-river dam in eastern Pennsylvania. After years of advocacy by his family, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a law, written by his wife Kathy's niece, requiring warning signs at such dams. Kathy sees it as the start of Jon's legacy of safer waterways, and fans at Friday's Bethel Park football game wore flannel in his memory.

Now in its 32nd year, Bethel’s Bounty is moving to the Library Volunteer Fire Hall on Nov. 15 to accommodate a growing crowd, featuring unlimited samplings from more than 20 restaurants, bakeries, breweries and other vendors along with small vendors and raffles. Bethel Park High School DECA members and Bethel Park Community Foundation interns Aruzhan Akhmetkhali and Kristina Adhikari spearheaded a marketing campaign — including a pop-up sale at the high school — to introduce the community’s longest-running tradition to a new audience. Tickets are $50 and available at Evey True Value Hardware and Rental, 5779 Library Road, or by calling 412-835-5780.
