Bethel Park High School will present “Radium Girls” Nov. 11-14 at 7 p.m. in the BPHS auditorium. Tickets are $7.

The production is based on the true story of young women who worked at the United States Radium Corporation’s factory in Orange, N.J., in the 1920s, painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark radium paint. Encouraged by supervisors to use their lips to keep their brushes finely pointed, the women began suffering devastating health effects as the radioactive material slowly poisoned their bodies.

When the workers sought answers, the corporation denied wrongdoing and used its considerable power to silence them. Undeterred, the women took their fight to court in a landmark legal battle that exposed the company’s negligence and helped establish workers’ right to sue employers for damages, a precedent that shaped American labor law for generations.
