Tennis standout reaches 100 wins

Since she burst onto the scene as a freshman, Cami Fisher has been retiring opponent after opponent from across the net.

At her match on Oct. 6, she defeated her 100th adversary, Eve Pellathy from Pine Richland.

"Reaching 100 wins meant a lot to me because it was a huge goal I had in place for myself this season," Fisher said. "It feels great to know I've been able to accomplish that for myself, but also win those matches for my team."

That team Fisher's referring to has had its own share of success, having won a WPIAL title in 2023 and finishing runner-up in 2024 and 2025. They are the section champs this year and poised to begin their WPIAL run.

The previous school record of 84 wins was held by Lizzy Yetiskul (Class of 2008).

In her decorated career, Fisher has added three section singles championships, a WPIAL singles runner-up finish, two WPIAL third-place finishes, a section doubles championship, a WPIAL doubles championship, three section team championships, two WPIAL team runner-up finishes, and a WPIAL team championship to her trophy case.

"The biggest factor in my success over these past few years is my support system," Fisher said. "I am very blessed to have a family that shows up for me consistently and a team of coaches who have made me the player I am today and never give up on me."

One addition to the coaching staff is 2x WPIAL champion Mia Gorman (Class of 2021). She serves as a volunteer assistant to the championship squad and is a powerful presence in Fisher's corner.

"I felt very proud about my WPIAL championship match, " said Fisher, referring to her contest with 4x WPIAL champion Merriwether McCargo of Shady Side Academy on Sept. 14.

Though she came up short, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, Fisher said, "I feel that I performed well and obviously the goal was to win, but I was able to learn a lot from the match, and I am excited to showcase that in the state tournament."

The first round of the PIAA singles tournament begins Friday, Nov. 6.

In the meantime, Fisher will look to help her team return to the WPIAL finals, where they lost 4-1 to Shady Side Academy a year ago.

The team tournament begins Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. The No. 2-seeded Black Hawks will face the Mustangs of Plum at BPHS.

"Looking back on the season, the chemistry and support of my team stands out the most to me because we are all so close on and off the court, and I think that helps us perform at our highest level," Fisher said.
