The Bethel Park Rotary Club’s September Student of the Month is Bethel Park High School senior Madelyn Sams. She was recently recognized at a small luncheon at The Garden Restaurant [4912 Gardenville Road, Pittsburgh, PA, 15236].
Madelyn is an excellent student who is a member of the National Honor Society and carries an outstanding 4.44 weighted GPA. She is also the President of Student Government Association (SGA) and the Vice President of the Class of 2024. Sams, a dedicated musician, is a member of Chamber Orchestra, an audition-based entry group and a squad leader for the marching band, where she plays the snare drum.
Outside of school, Madelyn is member of the Girl Scout Troop 51623 and is pursuing a Gold Award. She is also the Awards subcommittee Chair for Homecoming.
Sams relishes her role as the president of SGA because it has allowed her to make a difference in her classmates’ lives.
“I hold SGA especially close to my heart and look forward to seeing everyone at our Tuesday meetings,” she said. “I enjoy listening to others’ perspectives and gaining an insight into how they perceive their high school experience and the areas in which we can help improve it.”
Madelyn has not yet made her college decision and is considering several options.
Madelyn is the youngest of three children to Christina Turske and Rick Sams. Her older siblings are also Bethel Park alums. They are brother Jacob Sams (‘19), Katelyn Sams (’21).
Students are nominated for Bethel Park Rotary Student of the Month by administrators, teachers, students, or community members. They are chosen based on academics, scholastic, extracurricular, civic honors and awards, organization membership, and leadership.
At a monthly luncheon, honorees receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution to their community. For more information on Rotary and its mission, please ask any Rotarians about it or visit bethelparkrotary.org. You can also visit their Facebook page.
