Sixteen of Bethel Park High School’s Honors and AP German students recently competed against students from a dozen other Western PA high schools at the 2024 AATG Three Rivers German Day Competition, which was held on March 7 at Washington & Jefferson College. Bethel Park’s team brought home three first place and two third place awards.
Senior Lucas Hertzel earned first place in the Non-Fiction Writing category, and senior Jacob Kalogeris finished in third place in the Fiction Writing category. Sophomore John Busalacchi captured third place in the Drawing category with his drawing of a BMW sports car.
The sophomore team of Colin Finnegan and Christian Tabler outdueled teams from five other local schools to take first place in the Culture Bowl. Bethel Park’s music group consisting of seniors Kalogeris and Parker Nelson, sophomores Busalacchi, Tabler, Sadie Nelson, and Kate Tabler, and freshmen Alex Skaris and Adele Stamenov won the top prize in the Music competition with their acoustic rendition of the Silbermond song “Symphonie.” The first place finish in the Music category was Bethel Park’s first since 2001.
Other Bethel Park students who competed were freshmen Victoria Carberry and Gillian Uhl, juniors Nathan Disori and Frederick Mach, and seniors Sam Basile and Chloe Gorman.
